Round 5 (Second Stage): Wins for Regatas and Corinthians

First defeat of league's leader Uruguayan Defensor (1-1) against leader Argentinian Regatas (2-0) 72-56 was the most important game of the last round. Dominican center Luis Santos (203-1994, college: St.Louis) orchestrated the victory by scoring 12 points and 9 rebounds. contributed with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Center Theo Metzger (200-1999) answered with 13 points and 9 rebounds for Defensor. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Despite that victory Regatas went down to thirteenth position due to points difference. Defensor at the other side dropped to the fourteenth place with one game lost. They share the position with Corinthians. They were replaced at the leadership position by Alvarado. Defensor will play next round against Corinthians trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Regatas will try to continue on its current victory against sixteenth ranked San Jose in Asuncion.

American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) stepped up and scored 20 points and 6 assists for the winners and Lucas Caue chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Despite that victory Corinthians went down to fourteenth position due to points difference, which they share with Defensor. San Jose at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Corinthians will play against Defensor (#14) in Montevideo in the next round. San Jose will play at home against Regatas and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Thomas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Dominican center Luis Santos (203-1994, college: St.Louis) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and American swingman Austin Wrighten (192-1996, college: Lynchburg) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Four Corinthians and five San Jose players scored in double figures. San Jose's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
